Before joining the Lab in March of 2018, Brandt was the Associate Director of Environment, Safety, and Health for Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he led an organization of 750 employees with an operating budget of $150 million. Brandt has more than 30 years of progressively increasing responsibility and accountability for business services; environment, safety, and health; facilities; enterprise risk management; and operations. He holds doctoral and master’s degrees in public health from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in environmental health and industrial hygiene from the University of Minnesota, and a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University.

Deputy Chief Operating Officer Ellen Ford joined Berkeley Lab in 2002 as the business manager for the Physical Biosciences Division, managing financial and administrative operations for the division. She was a key contributor to the Joint BioEnergy Institute’s proposal development and submission. During her time at the Laboratory, she has contributed to numerous initiatives that focused on the development and implementation of improved business practices and procedures, several of which were in partnership with UC Berkeley. Prior to her work at Berkeley Lab, she was the director of Corporate Operations for Gap Inc.

As Laboratory Infrastructure Planning Officer, Stan works with PMO, PIMD and Facilities to create, plan and realize infrastructure revitalization at the Lab. Drawing on his more than 23 years of management, project management and engineering experience, Stan has served as the Deputy Division Director of the Facilities Division and as the Department Head for Design and Construction at LBNL. Before coming to LBNL, Stan worked for 9 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
Stan holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Notre Dame, a Master’s in Structural Engineering Mechanics & Materials from UC Berkeley, and a PhD. in Engineering and Project Management from the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley.

Interim Chief Financial Officer Edna Annis is responsible for Berkeley Lab’s fiduciary, financial, procurement, and property management systems.
Edna brings extensive experience in Laboratory operations, strategic risk management, business solutions, procurement, assurance and audit gained during her 24 year tenure in progressively responsible Lab roles. As the Laboratory’s Chief Procurement Officer, Edna most recently led the execution of $582M in annual procurement activity for the Lab’s scientific and operations organizations. As Business Manager for one of the largest scientific divisions, she managed all business and operations services. Prior to this, she led requirements and risk management as the Business Assurance manager in the OCFO, and served as a Lab Auditor.
Edna is a graduate of the National University of Singapore.

Adam Stone is the Chief Information Officer at the Lab. With more than 16 years experience as the Deputy CIO, Adam leads risk-management, cyber security strategy, assurance and compliance, and overall technical strategy in cloud, HPC, collaboration technologies, and data centers. Prior to joining the Lab, Adam spent 8 years as a researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Adam holds Master’s and PhD degrees in Political Science from UC Berkeley.

Chief Human Resources Officer Michelle Lee is responsible for leading all aspects of the human resources function at Berkeley Lab, including Talent Acquisition & Management; Compensation & Benefits; Learning & Development; Employee & Labor Relations; and Employee Engagement. Prior to joining the Lab in 2010, she worked at the University of California, Davis for over 16 years and until her hire served as the Management Services Officer at the University of California, Davis for the Departments of Wildlife, Fish, & Conservation Biology, Environmental Toxicology, and Land, Air, and Water Resources. Her experience also includes strategic planning, relationship building and coaching/mentoring.

Brent Henderson comes to the Lab with over 30 years of progressive experience in facilities and infrastructure management, most recently at the Nuclear Waste Partnership in Carlsbad, New Mexico, which manages and operates the Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). He has also spent time at Lawrence Livermore National Lab as the Deputy Associate Director of Facilities and Infrastructure, and twenty years at the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas where he served as the Plant Maintenance Department Manager. Brent is a veteran of the US Navy.

Maria Nappi will lead the EHS division, which includes Radiation Protection, Health Services, Occupational Safety, Waste Management, Environmental Services and Industrial Hygiene. Maria joins the Lab after 4 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) bringing more than 30 years of progressive responsibility and experience in operational Health Physics, radiation protection, licensing, emergency preparedness, decommissioning, and waste transportation. Prior to her work with LANL, she led Health Physics Operations at the Dominion Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT, where she achieved Six Sigma Black Belt certification in facilitation and change management. Ms. Nappi holds a Bachelor of Science in Radiological Health Physics from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

Manager of Institutional Assurance & Integrity Theresa Triplett oversees Berkeley Lab’s contract assurance systems, quality management, and ethics and integrity programs, and serves as the deputy institutional official for Research Integrity and Human and Animal Research protection. Prior to joining the Lab in 2009 as a program manager responsible for the development and implementation of policies, processes, and training for the Laboratory Issues Management Program, she served in various roles at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco as the district business continuity manager, enterprise risk management program manager, and cash services supervisor. She also served as a branch manager during her 15-year tenure at World Savings. Triplett earned her BBA from Wichita State University.

David von Damm brings more than 19 years of progressive responsibility and experience in security to Berkeley Lab, most recently in Homeland Security at the Oakland International Airport where he served as the Federal Security Director, overseeing 480 security officers, managers, and staff. Prior to his work with TSA, he served as the Deputy Federal Security Director in Alaska for the Department of Homeland Security. He is currently a reserve officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, and previously served five years of active duty. David leads the LBNL Site Security Office, which includes Physical Security, the Security Operations Center, the Site Access and Visitor Management program, Foreign Visitors and Assignments, and Personnel Security. David and the site security team work closely with both Emergency Management and Fire Protection and Prevention functions within Operations.

Todd Hancock joins the Lab with over 30 years of experience leading large scale capital and science projects across a range of sectors including infrastructure, biotech, seismic, mining/chemical processing, commercial manufacturing and refinery facilities. Todd brings executive level experience managing complex portfolio scale-up, oversight, and performance. He has executed strategies for portfolio expansion, has a high commitment to safety, and excels at strong stakeholder management at the highest levels, including managing a $1.4B PMO project and a $1B portfolio with $100M+ projects. His expertise includes managing business process change to achieve maximum results with effective planning as well as a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving. Todd holds a B.S. in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College and is a Registered Professional Engineer in California. His operations management experience includes all phases of engineering project work from preliminary planning activities through design, permitting, construction, start-up and validation.

Chris Lundell brings more than 27 years of experience to the Operations Senior Leadership team with 13 years at Berkeley Lab, and 15 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Previously, he has served as the Head of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), and as the IPO Budget Officer in OCFO. Chris is now the Project Director for Laboratory Transition on the Operations Senior Leadership team. In this role, he continues to lead the lab’s transition efforts from curtailed operations and shelter-in-place to resumption of activities and our gradual return to work pilot program. Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from San Francisco State University, and holds a Master of Business Administration from California State University at Hayward.

John has been at the Lab for 22 years in several managerial roles in EH&S, Facilities, and Contract and Quality Assurance. In January 2019, John took on the responsibilities of interim transportation manager, overseeing the complexity and challenges involved in the Laboratory’s parking and transportation services. Since that time John has successfully partnered with the Laboratory community and external stakeholders to develop and roll out creative solutions and pilots to help address our evolving transportation challenges at LBNL.
